How do I get started?

The first step is completion of an assessment. An assessment is essential to develop a cohesive and individualized program for your child that will be long lasting and practical. At completion of the assessment process, interventions will be described in detail how to address the concerns and how to assess if change is being made.

Assessments may include but are not limited to a background information form, functional assessment interview form, social skills assessment form, language, learning, and pre-academic form, or an infant-toddler checklist.

Once an assessment is completed, you will be provided with a summary of evaluation findings, service recommendations, and interventions that describe program implementation.

What type of ongoing service is available?

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®) is available to provide ongoing behavior therapy for your child, which can address a variety of concerns, including behavioral, social, language and learning, and academic. Therapists seeking supervision are also available to conduct intervention while being closely supervised by a BCBA® who develops the Behavior Program and conducts regular Program Reviews.

Services and treatments can be conducted at home, in school, or in the field. Please note that it is understood what financial constraints are placed on a family receiving ongoing treatments so we will work with you to develop the most cost-effective program possible.

To ensure you are receiving the most effective treatment possible, program reviews will be conducted after a determined number of hours/days, which will include tracking progress in the following ways:

- data analysis

- direct observation

- caregiver interviews

- mini-assessments

These tools will track your child’s progress and adapt the program as necessary. For example, new objectives will be added to your child’s program and possibly more or less caregiver training will be recommended.

The following are a sampling of possible Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®) services:

Assessment – includes conducting various assessment documents, including background information, functional behavior assessments or functional interviews, social skills assessments, language, learning, and pre-academic assessments, and/or an infant-toddler checklist. An assessment also includes functional analysis of data collected during direct observation of your child, evaluation of assessment findings, program recommendations, and writing of objectives.

An Assessment is a one-time service and fee per child, unless services are suspended for a significant period of time and then resumed, upon which a new assessment may need to be conducted.

Clinical Services – includes direct intervention and behavior therapy services with your child in the home, school, or field. Intervention may include discrete trial teaching and/or naturalized environment teaching to put into place the program developed for your child during assessment. Data is collected during each session; therefore program reviews are required to be conducted.

Clinical Services are usually a minimum of 2 hours in duration per session held at a minimum of 1 session per week.

Caregiver Training Services – includes direct, hands-on intensive work and collaboration with caregiver in the home, school, or field.  This allows ultimately for the caregivers to work most effectively with their child and conduct program recommendations, such as objectives, on their own. The BCBA® works with the caregivers on developing ways to ensure that consistent improvements occur with your child.

Caregiver Training Services can be held weekly or bi-weekly.

Consultation Services – includes consultations on the current program for your child, consultations with other professionals (Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Teachers) on how to work more effectively with your child, or expert consultation during school meetings with other school professionals.

Consultation Services can be held at caregivers’ discretion and may be recommended if, for example, your child is struggling with behaving or functioning in a school setting.

Program Reviews – includes tracking progress of your child by means of data analysis, direct and distance observation, caregiver interviews, and possible mini-assessments. Results of reviews will lead to changes made to your child’s current program to allow for the most effective and efficient interventions. For example, new objectives may be added which are written for and tailored to your child, or more clinical service sessions may be recommended.

Program reviews are conducted after a set number of sessions or hours of intervention to ensure the most effective treatment possible. These reviews can be conducted in the home, school or field.
